Tutorial: Start A New Hub

JavaScript is not currently enabled, but is required for full CodeSonar manual search and browse functionality.

If you are viewing this file in your hub's Web GUI, enable JavaScript in your browser: you will also need it for GUI functionality.

If you opened this file directly from disk, your browser may be directly suppressing JavaScript functionality: certain browsers perform this suppression on local files (but not files delivered by web servers) for security reasons.

If you access the manual through the hub's Web GUI, the functionality will not be suppressed because the hub is a web server.
Alternatively, your browser may allow you to explicitly disable the security setting that suppresses functionality. See the CodeSonar FAQ for more information.

If you have reached this page by mistake and don't need to start a new hub, go back to Make Sure the Hub is Ready.

There are two stages.

A: Confirm that you need to start a new hub: there may be an existing hub that is suitable for your needs.

B: Set up the hub: once you have confirmed that you need to start a new hub, set it up (including installing CodeSonar, if you have not previously done so.

There are several reasons to avoid starting a new hub unless you really need to.

Starting a brand new hub requires more steps than using an existing hub, including setting up a hub license which entails a delay of one working day for license signing.

You may have already started your own hub as part of the CodeSonar installation process, or at some other time. Running a second hub will increase overhead (it will need its own database, its own web server, and so forth), and make it more difficult for you to keep track of your hubs.

If your organization is already running as many hubs as it is licensed for, you may not be able to start a new hub at all.

To determine whether or not you definitely need to start a new hub:

If you have not already done so, work through the steps on the Hub Orientation page. Start with the Hub Identification Checklist.

If you were not able to identify a suitable existing hub after working through all steps, go on to B: Set up the hub .

Have you installed CodeSonar on your machine?

NO: Work through the CodeSonar installation and hub setup instructions, starting from Installing or Upgrading CodeSonar.

YES: Work through the hub setup instructions, starting from Installation: Hub Setup: Starting a New Hub.

In either case, once you have finished following the instructions you will reach a "Finishing up" page with a link to the next stage of this tutorial: Ready to Build/Analyze.
