MATH.DOMAIN : Floating Point Domain Error

Summary

An attempt to call a floating point function on a value that is outside its domain, when no other MATH.DOMAIN.* warning class is appropriate.

Enabling Checks for this warning class are enabled by default. To disable them, add the following WARNING_FILTER rule to the project configuration file.
WARNING_FILTER += discard class="Floating Point Domain Error"

Triggers

CodeSonar ships with library models that allow it to recognize functions such as libm yn() that are not applicable to all floating point numbers. If one of these functions is called with a floating point argument that is outside its domain, a warning will be issued.

If you have created a custom library model for some function f() in terms of one of these existing models, calls to f() will also be capable of triggering Floating Point Domain Error warnings.

Example

#include <math.h>

double call_yn(double ind){
    double a = yn(1,5);                     /* ok */
    double b = yn(-1,5); /* 'Floating Point Domain Error' warning issued here */
    double c = yn(ind,5); /* EVIDENCED ONLY: 'Floating Point Domain Error' warning issued here
                           * if CodeSonar has evidence that call_yn() is called on a value ≤-1. */
    return a+b+c;
}
